This 1920s postcard captures the picturesque village of Oberammergau, Germany, with the striking Kofel and Notspitze peaks rising in the background and the famed Passion Theatre in view. It is a beautifully composed “Originalaufnahme” that preserves a moment from a town world-renowned for its Passion Play—a tradition dating back to 1634.

The message on the back adds a deeply personal touch: a visit with Anton Lang, the celebrated potter and actor who portrayed Jesus Christ in the Passion Play in 1900, 1910, and 1922. Admired for his humble spirit and deep faith, Lang had traveled to Palestine in 1911, and the sender even recounts a long conversation with him in his home, located within the very building shown.

This postcard would look great framed, make a wonderful hostess gift, or make an excellent addition to any collection.
