1909 Undertaker Frank Howard's House Remington Indiana
1909 Remington, Indiana. Frank Howard House. Vintage silvered real photo postcard. RPPC. This card is addressed to Mrs. Clinton Crane; Mr. Crane (the sender), was a furniture and casket maker from Crawfordsville, Indiana, who was likely a guest in the house while visiting Mr. Howard on business. Both men were Freemasons.
Message on card: "This is Mr. Frank Howard's residence at Remington.. view of Frank Howard's House, Papa". According to the Remington Press, Mr. Howard passed away in this house.
Mr. Frank Howard was appointed by Governor Ralph F. Gates to the Indiana Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors. Frank Howard Corporation originated in 1901 when Frank Howard bought the Furniture and Undertaking establishment from Hal Sheetz. It was located on the east side of the street in South Ohio. Homer Lambert was with the firm then and stayed there until 1928. In 1917, Mr. Howard bought the north half of the McIntire and Shaw brick block and moved his store there. The firm was incorporated in 1933 by Frank Howard, Frankie May Howard, and Earl Ben. Howard was the original officer and director. Frank Howard died in 1935, and Mrs. Howard in 1952. A new funeral Chapel was built in 1939.
