1907 Fort Riley KS Postcard

Fort Riley, located in northeastern Kansas, was established in 1853 as a military outpost to protect settlers and facilitate westward expansion. Named after Major General Bennett C. Riley, it played a significant role during various conflicts, including the Indian Wars and the Civil War, serving as a base for military operations and a hub for cavalry training. The fort became notable for housing the 10th Cavalry Regiment, known as the "Buffalo Soldiers," who fought in numerous battles during the late 19th century. Over the years, Fort Riley evolved into a vital installation for the U.S. Army, supporting training and deployment efforts through both World Wars and continuing to serve as a key military base today.
