About This Vintage Postcard

The sacred intimacy of the first Christmas is captured in this vibrant color lithograph of the Nativity. The scene features the Virgin Mary, draped in her traditional blue mantle, tenderly cradling the infant Jesus. Beside them, Saint Joseph watches over the family with a protective gaze. On the left, a group of shepherds has gathered in humble adoration, one holding a small lamb as a symbolic offering. The composition uses a classic "Chiaroscuro" effect, where the holy light seems to emanate directly from the Christ Child, illuminating the weathered faces of the shepherds and the soft features of the Holy Family. Framed by an ornate patterned border, this traditional devotional image was intended to inspire wonder and piety.

Additional Information

This postcard was published by the George C. Whitney Co. of Worcester, Massachusetts, under their popular "Whitney-Made" brand. The manufacturing date is narrowed to 1915–1920, as the specific laurel-leaf wreath divider and the "Whitney-Made" logo were standard for their high-quality holiday and religious series during the late Golden Age and WWI era. Whitney-Made was one of the largest and most successful greeting card and postcard publishers in the United States, famous for their "Worcester Made" pride. While the image reflects the academic European style of religious painting, it was produced domestically for the American market. This card remains a fine example of the high production standards of American lithography during the early 20th century.

This postcard would look great framed or make an excellent addition to any collection.
