About This Vintage Postcard

The shimmering nightlife of Atlantic City's golden age is captured in this dramatic moonlit view of the famous Boardwalk. The scene features two of the city's most legendary architectural giants: the Marlborough-Blenheim on the left and the Traymore Hotel on the right. The Marlborough-Blenheim was a pioneer in reinforced concrete construction and featured a striking Queen Anne-style dome, while the Traymore was renowned for its massive, tiered towers and luxurious oceanfront presence. This postcard illustrates the vibrant energy of the "World's Playground," showing crowds gathered on the beach and strolling the illuminated Boardwalk under a full moon. These grand seaside palaces defined the Atlantic City skyline for decades before the era of modern casino-hotels began.

Additional Information

This card is dated to 1923 based on the Curt Teich production code 9568A. The "A" suffix indicates a revised or reissued version of this popular scene, produced just after the standard 1922 numerical sequence. It was published by P. Sander, a prominent regional distributor whose distinctive "PS Phila" Independence Hall logo is featured on the reverse. The artist, Alfred F. Selby, was renowned for his "Midnight on the Boardwalk" series, which used dramatic color saturation to simulate the glow of early electric lighting against the night sky. Both the Traymore and Marlborough-Blenheim hotels are now part of lost history; they were demolished in the 1970s to make way for the city's modern casino era.

This postcard would look great framed or make an excellent addition to any collection.
