About This Postcard

This antique monochromatic postcard features a photograph of a classical marble sculpture titled Cupid Asleep. The actual name of the depicted sculpture is "Love and Malice" It is a beautiful image of the goddess Venus with a slumbering Cupid in her lap. In his right hand he clutches a bow (with the string wound round it) and an arrow. The Nymph holds the tip of his right wing with the finger and thumb of her left hand, while in her right hand, which is held down against the rock, she clutches a closed pair of shears. Suspended from the rock by a strap is Cupid’s quiver.
