1900s Naples Italy Villa Nazionale Mount Vesuvius Vintage Postcard UDB
About This Postcard
This classic tinted postcard features a panoramic view of Naples (Napoli), Italy, looking from the Villa Nazionale across the Bay of Naples toward Mount Vesuvius. The foreground shows the lush greenery of the Villa Comunale (then known as Villa Nazionale), a prominent urban park created in the 1780s. In the mid-ground, the Castel dell'Ovo sits on the waterfront, while the active volcano Mount Vesuvius dominates the horizon with a gentle plume of smoke. This scene captures the iconic landscape that made Naples a essential stop on the European Grand Tour during the Belle Époque.

Additional Information
The publisher, Richter & Co. of Naples, was one of the most prolific and high-quality postcard producers in southern Italy at the turn of the century. Their imprint is clearly visible in the bottom right corner of the image. The back of the card is a standard undivided layout with multilingual headers for Cartolina Postale, Carte Postale, and Postkarte. This design confirms it was manufactured before the 1905 transition to divided backs in Italy, during the period when the back of the card was strictly reserved for the recipient's address.
