Mount Vernon, the historic Virginia estate of George Washington, stands as one of the most important preserved homes from the early days of the United States. This vintage postcard shows the Lafayette Bedroom, a distinguished guest chamber named in honor of the Marquis de Lafayette, the French nobleman and military officer who became one of the most trusted allies of the American colonies during the Revolutionary War and a lifelong friend of Washington.

The room is the largest guest bedroom on the second floor of the mansion and reflects the refined hospitality Washington extended to honored visitors. A striking near life size portrait of Lafayette commands attention in the room, while the bed and window treatments feature distinctive red and white toile style fabric that gives the space its elegant character. Period furnishings, warm wooden floors, and carefully arranged decor recreate the atmosphere of an important guest chamber from the late eighteenth century.

The room has been carefully restored to reflect its historic appearance, allowing visitors to experience the setting where prominent guests once stayed while visiting Washington’s riverside estate overlooking the Potomac. Preserved by the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association since 1853, the mansion remains a powerful symbol of the nation’s founding history and the life of its first president.

This would look great framed or make an excellent addition to any collection.
