Step into the vibrant heart of Midtown Miami, where modernist architecture meets tropical elegance. This vintage postcard captures the iconic Bacardi Building at 2100 Biscayne Boulevard, a landmark completed in 1963 that once served as the U.S. headquarters for Bacardi Rum after the family relocated from Havana following the Cuban Revolution. The eight-story tower, designed by Cuban architect Enrique Gutiérrez, appears to float above the city with glass curtain walls and distinctive cantilevered wings, perfectly blending International Style sophistication with tropical expression.

The building’s north and south facades are adorned with massive blue-and-white ceramic tile murals by Brazilian artist Francisco Brennand, featuring 28,000 hand-painted tiles depicting sinuous tropical plants. Known as the “Jewel Box,” the two-story annex added in 1972 is suspended 47 feet above the ground and includes stained-glass walls that trace sugarcane’s transformation into rum, adding a storybook quality to the ultra-modern design. Overlooking Biscayne Bay, the Bacardi Building became a visual symbol of Miami’s mid-century growth and the cosmopolitan flair of the city’s skyline.

Now home to the National YoungArts Foundation, the complex continues to inspire, serving as a campus for emerging artists while preserving its architectural significance as a Miami Modern (MiMo) landmark listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. This postcard, issued by Scenic Vendors of Hallandale, Florida, captures the building’s striking presence and its connection to both Cuban-American heritage and Miami’s postwar architectural boom.

A striking addition to any collection of mid-century architecture, Miami history, or corporate heritage, this postcard would look exceptional framed.
