When The Cook Ain't Welcome offers a lively glimpse into frontier life with a touch of humor. A wooden cabin with a smoking chimney stands quietly as several horses gather nearby. In front, the cook holds a box of donuts and a Squirt soda bottle, seemingly unwelcome amid the commotion. To the right, one horse struggles with its hoof caught in a log while a cowboy holds a pair of buck antlers. The scene feels like a candid snapshot of life on the range, full of the small troubles and characters that made the West so colorful.

This 1959 reproduction is an etching by Montana cowboy artist Art Brown. Born in 1911 and raised near Great Falls, Brown was largely self-taught, developing his sketches through everyday experiences on the ranch. His drawings often carried a wry humor and captured the realities of cowboy life with honesty and warmth. Though his life had many hardships, his art earned comparisons to Charles Russell and remains a vivid record of a disappearing world.

This postcard would look great framed, make a wonderful host or hostess gift, or make an excellent addition to any collection.
