Printed in 1920, this striking vintage postcard shows Rodin’s The Thinker poised thoughtfully in front of the Horticultural Building—better known today as the Conservatory of Flowers—in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. Opened in 1879, the conservatory is the park’s oldest structure, its elegant glass design housing rare and exotic plants beneath its domed roof. In the foreground stands a powerful cast of The Thinker, purchased directly from Rodin in 1915 by San Francisco arts patron Alma Spreckels. For nearly a decade, the sculpture added a touch of European grandeur to the park before being relocated in 1924 to the newly built Legion of Honor museum in Lincoln Park. This image captures a fleeting but remarkable meeting of natural beauty and cultural legacy.

This postcard would look great framed, make a wonderful hostess gift, or make an excellent addition to any collection.
