A rare example of handmade mid-century Black Americana, this 1950s vintage pipe cleaner pocket Posie doll carries both charm and quiet historical weight. Created not as a commercial toy but as a thoughtful, purposeful craft, it reflects a legacy of care, community action, and cultural storytelling.

The doll stands approximately 3 inches tall and was made using traditional pipe cleaner and fabric techniques associated with early Posie dolls. It is not mounted on a stand and is best left undisturbed, as one leg is missing and the materials exhibit some natural brittleness due to age. The figure was crafted by Mrs. Halbet of Emporia, Kansa, a member of the Emporia Society who, in the 1920s, organized community fundraisers to support Black children, including financing YMCA camp trips for disadvantaged boys.

Rich in both provenance and handmade character, this modest but meaningful piece offers a glimpse into the grassroots artistry and social activism of its time
