Originally acquired from the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Gift Shop following the inauguration of the Michael C. Rockefeller Wing in 1982. The museum's gift shop offered a selection of items sourced from the newly accessible Arts of Africa, the Ancient Americas, and Oceania. The wing itself continues to house galleries dedicated to these three distinct collections, presenting them as interconnected elements within the museum's broader holdings.
