This exquisite 1909 vintage postcard, illustrated by the beloved Ellen Clapsaddle, beautifully captures the quiet charm of a winter's day just after church service. Five children, dressed in a variety of early 20th-century winter attire, are arranged in a gentle semi-circle against a softly blurred forest backdrop. A quaint church can be seen in the distance to the left, lending a peaceful, reverent tone to the scene.

Each child is uniquely outfitted, suggesting a mix of personalities or backgrounds: one wears a tan coat and matching hat with shorts, holding a small book; another in a light blue dress and bonnet stands serenely; a child in a white dress clutches a black book, perhaps a hymnal; beside them, a child in a vivid red coat and black hat adds a festive pop of color; and finally, a little one in a white coat and bonnet completes the group. The ground, scattered with fallen leaves and a dusting of snow, hints at a late autumn or early winter day.

“A Happy Christmas” is printed in decorative script at the lower left, while a handwritten verse on the right reads: “Church is over, home we go, walking gaily through the snow.” It's a quietly joyful scene of tradition, innocence, and seasonal beauty—hallmarks of Clapsaddle’s treasured work.
