Thomas Worthington was a pivotal figure in Ohio’s early history, serving as the state’s sixth governor and one of its first United States senators. This vintage postcard captures his private study at Adena, his hilltop mansion in Chillicothe, Ohio, where he conducted personal affairs and official business during the early 1800s. The room features a large green-painted library filled with period-appropriate books, a substantial wooden writing desk, Windsor-style chairs, and historic rifles mounted above the fireplace. Patterned wallpaper and a colorful area rug complete the Federal-era interior, reflecting the sophistication and refinement of its owner.

Adena Mansion was designed by Benjamin Henry Latrobe, celebrated as the father of American architecture, in the Federal style. The Ohio Historical Society has carefully restored the mansion and gardens, preserving the study and its furnishings to offer visitors an authentic glimpse into the life of one of Ohio’s founding statesmen and the early governance of the state.

This would look great framed or make an excellent addition to any collection.
