This antique hand-woven wool textile panel exhibits the decorative motifs and composition associated with Neoclassical Aubusson, French textiles. The design features lush floral panels at either end framing a central cartouche, rendered in a subdued, softened palette consistent with Romantic tastes of the 1800s.
The textile was hand woven, constructed with thicker wool wefts and finer warp threads visible on the reverse, typical of functional domestic furnishings produced in France during the 1800s. While Aubusson workshops are best known for large wall tapestries and carpets, related regional production adapted similar ornamental vocabulary for smaller decorative items such as runners and furniture textiles.
