"Do but see this comic set of fellows form the alphabet” - a charming vintage linen tapestry featuring a reproduction of the 1782 Colonial Carington Bowles print titled The Comical Hotch Potch, or The Alphabet turn'd Posture-Master. This whimsical piece adds a touch of historic whimsy and playful learning to any nursery or child’s room.
Following the customs of the 18th century, the print includes only 24 letters - “J” and “U” are missing, as “I” and “V” were used in their place. Measuring approximately 27½" x 16⅜", the tapestry features a top opening designed to fit a rod or dowel up to 2 inches in circumference for easy hanging.
Marked with a 1990 copyright from the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, this tapestry is in pristine condition, a unique blend of history and nursery decor that sparks curiosity and delight.
