About This Vintage Postcard

A vibrant sea of summer blooms spills across the grounds of the House of the Seven Gables, their bright colors a striking contrast to the weathered timber of this legendary Salem home. This scene captures the quiet enchantment of the seaside garden, where the salt air and the scent of roses once inspired Nathaniel Hawthorne to weave his famous tale of ancestral secrets. It is a peaceful glimpse into one of New England’s most storied landscapes, inviting you to imagine the generations who have walked these paths under the shadow of the gables.

Additional Information

The House of the Seven Gables, built in 1668, is one of the oldest surviving timber-framed mansion houses in North America. This postcard, printed by The Heliotype Corporation of Boston, features the copyright of Caroline O. Emmerton, who purchased the house in 1908 to fund her settlement house mission. Based on the production style and the associated series for the House of Seven Gables, this card was manufactured in 1925. The high-quality printing reflects the specialized heliotype process, which was known for its superior photographic reproduction before the transition to cheaper lithographic methods.

This vintage postcard would look great framed or make an excellent addition to any collection.
