Step into the bright optimism of the 1967 World’s Fair with this vintage postcard capturing a striking view of Île Notre-Dame during Expo 67 in Montreal. Under the clear summer sky, the Cuba Pavilion rises in the foreground like a cluster of brilliant white cubes scattered across the island. Sunlight washes over its sharp angles and geometric planes, casting bold shadows that shift across the structure like pieces of a living sculpture. Splashes of color appear in vivid windows and panels, adding bursts of red and blue that feel like bright blossoms against the clean white surfaces.

Beyond the pavilion, the grounds of Expo 67 stretch into a lively plaza where visitors from around the world once gathered to explore a vision of the future. In the distance stand other remarkable pavilions that defined the fair’s skyline. The sweeping roof of the Soviet Union Pavilion rises dramatically, its curved form resembling the wing of a great bird about to lift into flight. Nearby, the Ethiopia Pavilion appears like a graceful ceremonial tent, inspired by ancient traditions. Farther along the horizon, the steel spans of the Jacques Cartier Bridge reach across the St. Lawrence River, connecting this temporary city of innovation to the historic streets of Montreal.

The Cuba Pavilion itself was designed by architects G. Baroni, Vittorio Garatti, and Hugo d'Acosta as an experiment in modern construction. Built with a steel frame and aluminum walls coated in white vinyl, its interlocking cube design reflected the bold architectural imagination of the era. Inside, the pavilion presented exhibits about Cuba’s history, culture, and social development, while exterior screens projected films for crowds gathered outside. Expo 67 became one of the most celebrated world’s fairs in history, drawing millions of visitors to experience a hopeful vision of international cooperation and modern design.

This postcard was published by Benjamin News Co., Ltd. of Montreal and printed using the Plastichrome of Canada process, known for producing vibrant color postcards that captured the excitement and architectural wonders of the Expo era.

This vintage postcard would look great framed or make a great addition to any collection.
