This vintage postcard features the historic 1800 Dining Room at Longfellow's Wayside Inn in South Sudbury, Massachusetts. The wing of the building was added around 1800 to accommodate increased stagecoach traffic and provide a ballroom overhead for country dances. Today, this charming space serves as a dining room where guests enjoy luncheon, tea, and dinner in a setting rich with history.

Longfellow's Wayside Inn, established in 1703 by David Howe, is the oldest operating inn in the United States. Initially a gathering spot for travelers, the inn became famous when poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow visited in 1862 and wrote Tales of a Wayside Inn, bringing national attention to the site. In 1923, industrialist Henry Ford acquired the inn to preserve it as a living museum of Americana, adding structures like the Redstone Schoolhouse and gristmill. The inn remains a testament to early American life, and it is operated today by the Wayside Inn Foundation.

This Natural Color Card offers a glimpse into the inn’s storied past, making it a perfect addition for collectors of vintage postcards or lovers of New England history.
