This beautiful 1950s postcard features the historic John Oliver Cabin, nestled in the heart of Cades Cove within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Built in 1818, this log structure is the oldest standing building in the area, marking the homestead of John Oliver, a War of 1812 veteran and the first permanent white settler of Cades Cove.

The image captures the cabin's rustic charm, complete with its stone chimney, split-rail fence, and grassy clearing, surrounded by forest and mountain views. Over the years, the cabin became a symbol of Appalachian heritage and was later home to the Walker Sisters, who lived in the cove well into the 20th century. The cabin was restored in 1976 and remains a favorite stop for park visitors.

This postcard represents early pioneer life in East Tennessee and is a cherished piece of Smokies history.
