This vintage black and white postcard captures the timeless charm of the Club House at Wildwood Golf Course in Charles City, Iowa. The one-story building, constructed in 1927, features a gabled roof and multiple sections, reflecting the Tudor Revival style. Arched openings on the left side suggest a welcoming porch, while the central and right sections boast windows adorned with striped awnings, adding a touch of elegance.Β
Wildwood Golf Course has a storied past. Established in 1916, the course was developed by the Wildwood Golf Association, and the clubhouse was constructed in 1927. During the Great Depression, the country club faced financial challenges, and the clubhouse served as a residence for German Prisoners of War during World War II. After the war, the country club reorganized and built a new facility on the east side of town. In 1998, the Wildwood Park Historic District, encompassing the golf course and its clubhouse, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, recognizing its architectural and historical significance.
