Set of three 1920s vintage red casein buttons. These two-hole, sew-through buttons were salvaged from a badly damaged 1920s beach pajama top.

Era: 1920s
Quantity: 3, three
Size: Medium
Measurement: 41L, 41 lignes, 26 mm, or 1-inch
Attachment: Two-hole sew-through.

Color: Deep red. Casein was valued for its ability to hold color and detail, giving each piece a unique, organic character.

Material: Casein. Invented in 1897, Casein milk plastics are a type of plastic made from a protein called casein found in milk. They were popular in the early 1900s, but making it was a slow process, and after World War II, newer plastics became more popular. The production of casein plastics all but ended after 1945.

Origin: United States, Casein production flourished in the 1920s and 1930s.

Uses: Ideal for pajamas, dresses, decorative craft projects, and historical garment restorations.

Condition: Excellent. The crackle effect is part of the design and natural aging of the material.
