Set of eight, 1900s loden greenish tone, casein buttons.

Measure approximately 27L, 27 lignes, 17.1 mm, 3/4"

Four-hole sew-through buttons. Salvaged from a button fly on a pair of antique pants. Some show signs of hard laundering.

Invented in 1897, Casein milk plastics are a type of plastic made from a protein called casein found in milk. They were popular in the early 1900s, but making it was a slow process, and after World War II, newer plastics became more popular. The production of casein plastics all but ended after 1945.
