Step back to mid-century Michigan with this vintage postcard of Castle Rock Scenic Overlook, located just north of St. Ignace in the Upper Peninsula. Rising roughly 195 feet above the surrounding landscape, this limestone stack was formed by post-glacial Lake Nipissing erosion and historically served as a lookout for the Ojibway people, sometimes called “Pontiac’s Lookout.”

Visitors could climb the staircase to the summit for sweeping views of Lake Huron, Mackinac Island, and the Mackinac Straits, making it a must-see stop for road-trippers exploring the region. This image, made from a natural color transparency by The L. L. Cook Co., Milwaukee, Wisconsin, captures the site with mid-century vehicles in the parking area, giving a nostalgic glimpse of 1950s tourism.
