Line Camp depicts a quiet moment in the working life of the American West. Three saddled horses are tied to a hitching rail in front of a small, rustic cabin. The simple structure sits beneath a mountain range. This type of camp was used by cowboys tending cattle in remote areas, especially on government grazing allotments—temporary shelters where men stayed while working “on the mountain.” The scene is stripped down and practical, reflecting the isolated, rugged nature of these camps.

This is a 1959 reproduction of an original etching by Montana cowboy artist Art Brown. Born in 1911 and raised on a cattle ranch near Great Falls, Brown had no formal training and left school after the eighth grade. He developed his style through constant sketching, often trading his drawings or giving them away. His work captured the everyday life of the West with a raw, unfiltered honesty that earned him comparisons to Charles Russell. Art Brown lived the world he drew, and each piece carries the mark of a life spent close to the land.

This postcard would look great framed, make a wonderful host or hostess gift, or make an excellent addition to any collection.
