This 1940s vintage seaside postcard is titled “Just an Old-Fashioned Greeting.” It shows a humorous beach scene with a handlebar-mustached man smoking a pipe, a woman in a Victorian bathing suit, and an English bobby patrolling the sand. The illustration captures the playful, lighthearted humor typical of mid-20th century seaside postcards.

Illustrated by Eric Ericson, a prominent American cartoonist and illustrator. Ericson worked for magazines such as The New Yorker, Collier’s, The Saturday Evening Post, Esquire, and Look. During World War II, he created the popular weekly cartoon feature “The Grounded Gremlin” for Liberty magazine. He also produced numerous comic illustrations for postcards, including the “Beach Police” series.

This postcard is a linen postcard, a style popular from roughly 1930 to 1945, known for its textured surface and bright lithograph colors. It is numbered 554 in the bottom right corner. The humor reflects playful seaside antics, often with gentle double meanings, a hallmark of mid-century comic postcards.

This card is uncirculated and a classic example of vintage ephemera. Its vibrant colors and nostalgic humor make it ideal for framing or as a whimsical addition to any beach, postcard, or comic art collection.
