This vintage 1929 postcard features the stunning "Apotheosis of Washington" fresco in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. Painted by Constantino Brumidi in 1865, this masterpiece spans the canopy of the Rotunda and depicts George Washington ascending to the heavens, surrounded by allegorical figures representing Liberty, Victory, and other symbols of American ideals. The vivid colors and dramatic composition reflect the grandeur of Washington’s legacy, reinforcing his status as the “father of the nation.” By 1929, this magnificent artwork had already become an iconic symbol of American pride and a central feature of the Capitol’s interior, celebrating the nation's reverence for its first president.
