13L Set of Two Black Czech Glass Diminutive Buttons, 5/16"
This charming pair of diminutive square black molded glass buttons originates from the renowned Jablonec nad Nisou region in Bohemia (now the Czech Republic), the historic heart of European glass button production since the 1700s.
Each button features a deep, glossy black center framed by a hand-painted contrasting border in warm orange-brown tones, finished with a subtle zigzag geometric pattern. The decorative border adds refined detail and reflects the influence of late Victorian to early Art Nouveau design.
Finished with integrated molded self-shanks, a hallmark of late 19th- and early 20th-century Bohemian craftsmanship, these buttons were designed for smooth, secure sewing without separate metal components. Measuring approximately 13 lignes (about 8.2 mm or 5/16 inch), their diminutive size makes them ideal for blouses, collars, cuffs, authentic vintage garment restoration, doll clothing, jewelry accents, or inclusion in a button collection.
Condition is excellent vintage, with rich black luster, crisp molding, vibrant intact paint with no flaking or loss, and a strong glossy finish. A beautiful and versatile example of authentic Bohemian glass artistry—timeless, elegant, and highly collectible.
Dating to the late Victorian to early Edwardian era (c. 1890s–1910s), these buttons draw from the long tradition of black glass popularized during the Victorian mourning period, while the colorful painted accents indicate a more fashion-forward, decorative intent rather than strict mourning use.
Measure approximately 13 lignes, 8.2 mm., or 5/16".
