This rare 1977 feminist poster, autographed by Gloria Steinem, features a powerful quote adapted from the "Everything You Have" speech by Jill Ruckelshaus at the National Women's Political Caucus California Convention.

The poster is offered in original “as-found” condition, showing natural browning on the edges and the backing paper. It has noticeably slid all the way to the bottom inside the frame, making the measurements approximate. The frame is covered with clear plastic rather than glass and shows signs of wear, including scratches, dings, and areas of missing paint on the frame. The wear is consistent with its age.

The quote on the poster reads:
“We are in for a very, very long haul—I am asking for everything you have to give. We will never give up—you will lose your youth, your sleep, your patience, your sense of humor and occasionally the understanding and support of people that you love very much. In return, I have nothing to offer you but your pride in being a woman, and all your dreams you’ve ever had for your daughters, nieces, and granddaughters—your future and the certain knowledge that at the end of your days, you will be able to look back and say that once in your life, you gave everything you had for Justice.”

The frame measures 24 ½ inches by 19 ¼ inches. The poster is measured while still in the frame and “as found,” and is approximately 21 ½ inches by 16 3/8 inches. The paper itself is a creamy tan color.

In the lower right corner, the poster includes the line:
From a speech by Jill Ruckelshaus, Copyright National Women’s Political Caucus 1977 – California Convention, Mary Stanley 1361 N. Del Mar, Fresno, CA 93728.

On the lower right side:

Gloria Steinem is a pioneering feminist leader and icon of the women’s movement. Jill Ruckelshaus was a prominent Republican advocate for women’s rights and a key figure in the fight for the Equal Rights Amendment. From Washington State, Jill Ruckelshaus served as Presiding Officer of the National Commission on the Observance of International Women's Year from 1975 to June 1976, appointed by President Gerald Ford. She was also a feminist activist and served as a commissioner for the United States Commission on Civil Rights in the early 1980s.

The poster’s top historic image is from the New York shirtwaist strike of 1909, also known as the Uprising of the 20,000. It was a labor strike primarily involving Jewish women working in New York shirtwaist factories. It was the largest strike by female American workers up to that date. The lower image was captured by iconic photojournalist Beryl Goldberg, representing the second wave of feminism.

The graphic design is by artist Maia Sortor. In 1991, Sortor was named by the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF).

Mary Stanley continues to be a feminist powerhouse who has exhibited her work nationally and co-produces the award-winning "Women's Voices" radio program on Syracuse University's NPR station.

This unique and historically significant political poster blends second wave feminist activism with an autograph from one of the leading figures in the movement. Given its rarity, condition, and the prominence of the individuals involved, it would make a wonderful gift for collectors of feminist memorabilia, political history enthusiasts, and institutions focused on women's rights and social justice. As both a cultural artifact and a reflection of a pivotal era, it holds lasting value for those invested not only in preserving the history of activism and public discourse but also in inspiring continued passion for justice and progress today.

This framed poster will be shipped as shown, insured, with signature confirmation required at delivery to U.S. addresses only (no freight forwarding address and no Post Office boxes).
