#1 FIRST ISSUE. K49039 #1 April 1978. 78 pages. Future Life was a science, science fiction, and fantasy magazine. This issue includes a Fredrick Pohl interview, The Man from Planet X, Building King Kong (with Rick Baker), Doug Trumbull interview, The Saga of The Hobbit, Chesley Bonestell at 90, and Asimov warns of society in the future.

This first issue of Future (later renamed Future Life) debuts, created by the same team behind Starlog. It features a wrap-around cover with no ad on the back, showcasing artwork by Chesley Bonestell, originally from Exploration of Mars (1956). Bonestell, a favorite of the staff, would be featured in many future issues.

Kerry O'Quinn’s editorial discusses how progress benefits everyone, while the "Input" section includes messages from Neil Armstrong and Bonestell, as well as discussions on Logan's Run and a potential Dune movie. The Databank section covers various news, such as NASA’s space suits helping a child and sequels to Star Trek and Star Wars.

The issue includes columns on upcoming SF shows, life on Mars, interviews with Fred Pohl and special effects artist Rick Baker, and articles on ocean health and space colonization. Isaac Asimov writes about future society, and Howard Zimmerman shares his thoughts on thinking big.

Frederick Pohl writes, "Science fiction is the future. It talks about all the possible futures that may exist... SF writers will discover new ways in which they affect human beings."
