Out of Town Visitor captures a moment of pure chaos in a dusty Western town. A moose barrels down the main street, while a cowboy on horseback tries to rope it mid-run. Storefronts with signs reading “EAT” and “SALOON” line the scene, and a dog barks furiously at the fleeing animal. In the background, a wagon sits parked, and the surrounding desert landscape stretches beyond the town limits. It’s an unexpected clash of wilderness and civilization, drawn with a touch of humor and sharp observation.
This is a 1959 reproduction of an original etching by Montana cowboy artist Art Brown. Born in 1911 and raised near Great Falls, Brown spent his early years on a cattle ranch and taught himself to draw through daily practice. His work, often bartered or given away, is known for its blend of realism and wit. Though his life was hard, his sketches—frequently compared to those of Charles Russell—remain vivid records of the people, places, and wild surprises of the West.
This postcard would look great framed, make a wonderful host or hostess gift, or make an excellent addition to any collection.
