1909 vintage lithograph postcard. The First Lewiston-Clarkston Bridge was the first to span the Snake River between Washington and Idaho. Completed in 1899, and razed in 1939, it cost five cents to cross if you were on foot, and ten cents if you were on a horse or in a wagon.

The message on the back talks about the river being exceptionally high, and an island home (marked with a small "x" on the front of the card) having to be evacuated, with the chickens seeking refuge on the roof of a house. The June 1909 American Meteorological Society Journal stated that "...waters of the Snake River was unusually heavy and well packed".
