Additional Information

The image captures the Muskingum River Lock and Dam No. 1, situated at the mouth of the Muskingum River where it meets the Ohio River. The dam was a central feature of Marietta's riverfront for over a century before its removal in the 1960s following the construction of the Belleville Dam. The prominent clock tower in the background belongs to the Washington County Courthouse.

The extensive handwritten message on the reverse is transcribed here for accuracy: "We got here all OK Saturday night. Mrs. B. was at home but rooms not in shape so we have a couple of rooms on Scammel St. House next to Dr. Ballard's. Three bucks each per week. Excellent beds, clean, and hot water. Mrs. W. fell at time of house lightening struck house and injured end of spine. Since operation unable to sit down. things about as we expected. Hard to decide what is best to do. Heard from Mr. Hammond so will be in Cleveland Friday, leave Friday morn. Be back here first of Sept. Is Crossen with you?" A side note adds: "Sent word to Dr. G.
