A natural material, Mother of Pearl is made from nacre (the inner layer of pearl oyster shells).

Luckyday brand pearl buttons were most popular during the 1940s and 1950s. Manufactured by Muscatine Pearl Works in Muscatine, Iowa (established in 1938), these mother-of-pearl and shell buttons hit peak popularity during and after World War II, when home-sewing and garment-mending surged due to wartime clothing rationing.

They were famously sold on decorative display cards featuring distinctive mid-century graphics like the lithograph print of the man on this card.
