Take in a sweeping aerial view of Lower Manhattan, where the historic heart of New York City rises in a dramatic cluster of stone and steel. From high above, the Financial District forms a dense skyline of towering buildings, their rooftops creating a jagged crown along the southern edge of the island. Within this compact landscape lies some of the city’s most important landmarks, including City Hall, the Battery, Federal Hall, and Trinity Church.

Dominating the modern skyline of the era is the newly constructed 60 story Chase Manhattan Bank Building, a striking symbol of postwar progress standing proudly among the historic towers surrounding Wall Street, long known as the financial capital of the world. Beyond the buildings, the Hudson and East Rivers frame the island, while in the upper left of the scene the Statue of Liberty stands watch in New York Harbor, a quiet guardian of the gateway to America.

This vintage postcard features a photograph by Thomas Airviews and was published by Manhattan Post Card Publishing Co., Inc., 657 Broadway, New York City. Produced by Dexter Press of West Nyack, New York, it captures a remarkable mid-century perspective of Lower Manhattan during a time when half a million people worked in this historic district.

This vintage postcard would look great framed or make a great addition to any collection.
