Opened in 1932 by Garnet and Frieda Carter, Rock City was designed to blend natural beauty with storybook fantasy. Inspired by European folklore, Frieda Carter imported gnome statues from Germany, placing them throughout the gardens to create a sense of magic and wonder. Many of these enchanting figures still reside in the nearby Fairyland Caverns, surrounded by colorful fairytale dioramas that have captivated generations of visitors.
