Handwoven wool table runner dating to the 19th century, exhibiting decorative motifs and overall composition associated with Aubusson-style French textiles. The design features floral panels at either end framing a central cartouche, rendered in a subdued palette consistent with Romantic and late Neoclassical tastes of the period.
The textile is woven rather than embroidered or needlepointed, constructed with thicker wool wefts and finer warp threads visible on the reverse, typical of functional domestic furnishings produced in France during the 1800s. While Aubusson workshops are best known for large wall tapestries and carpets, related regional production adapted similar ornamental vocabulary for smaller decorative items such as runners and furniture textiles.
The wool has a substantial hand appropriate to a period woven furnishing. Wear, color softening, and structural irregularities are consistent with age and long-term use.
Dimensions: approximately 54" x 21"
Weight: approximately 1.5 lbs
Condition: Condition reflects age and use. One end shows exposed warp threads where the woven edge has worn or been cut; this is damage rather than original fringe. The imgages illustrate the most noticeable flaws but do not capture every minor issue. Please review images carefully.
