Vintage Japanese Furisode Kimono – Rare Pink-Red Plum Blossom Zha-Ran (暈繝) Dyeing in Wool Blend by the Famous “Kōtekizome” (好適染) Dyeworks Circa 1970s–1980s
A striking and feminine long-sleeved furisode, the most formal kimono style, reserved for young unmarried women, executed in the exquisite Zha-ran (chin-ron / 暈繝) dyeing technique. This traditional Japanese method produces a beautiful vertical color graduation (from deep rose at the shoulders, softly fading to pale blush at the hem) with delicate plum-blossom (ume) motifs emerging along flowing vines. The plum blossom, Japan’s beloved symbol of perseverance and hope that blooms even in late-winter snow, is perfectly showcased in this masterful fade.
The garment proudly carries the red label of 好適染 Kōtekizome, a highly respected mid-20th-century Japanese dye house and registered trademark renowned among collectors for its superior, colorfast dyes and sophisticated designs.
Condition: Very good vintage display/wearable condition. Light surface soiling in some areas; will respond beautifully to professional dry cleaning (priced accordingly). A small collar seam was previously opened and has since been neatly re-stitched, once again concealing the original Kōtekizome brand tag and fiber-content label inside as intended.
A dramatic, authentic 1970s–1980s Japanese furisode with the coveted Zha-ran (暈繝) technique, equally gorgeous displayed, worn as a bohemian statement coat, or cherished by collectors of high-era vintage kimono.
