About This Vintage Postcard

This evocative monochrome postcard captures a quiet street in the village of Beynat, located in the Corrèze department of southwestern France. The scene features traditional stone architecture characteristic of the Limousin region, with a prominent steep-roofed building and the village church bell tower rising in the background. Bare winter trees and a rustic wooden fence in the foreground add a sense of still, rural life at the dawn of the 20th century. This card was mailed during the early years of the Golden Age of postcards, carrying a personal message from a local resident to a recipient in Paris.

Additional Information

This card was published by the firm of Meyrignac and Puydebois based in Brive-la-Gaillarde, a prolific local editor known for documenting the small communes of the Corrèze region. The handwritten message on the reverse, sent to Monsieur Bernadou in Paris, reads: "La petite Corrézienne remercie Monsieur Bernadou de la charmante carte qu'il a envoyée. Elle nous a beaucoup amusés." (The little girl from Corrèze thanks Mr. Bernadou for the charming card he sent. It amused us very much.) The 1905 postmark is significant as the divided back format had only been authorized in France for one year at this time, marking this as an early example of the modern postcard layout.

This postcard would look great framed or make an excellent addition to any collection.
