Step aboard a piece of Wisconsin history with this vintage postcard featuring the Colsac II ferry crossing the Wisconsin River at Merrimac on Highway 113. The image shows the ferry loaded with period cars as it carries passengers across the scenic mile-long route, linking Sauk and Columbia counties and providing a vital transportation connection still celebrated today.

Known as the Merrimac Ferry, the Colsac II was christened in 1963 to succeed the original Colsac and operated continuously as Wisconsin’s only free ferry until it was replaced by the larger Colsac III in 2003. The postcard captures not only a working vessel but a nostalgic glimpse of mid-century travel, with the ferry serving as both a practical route and a popular attraction near the Wisconsin Dells and Lake Wisconsin vacationland.

Produced as a “Lusterchrome” postcard by Tichnor Bros., Inc., Boston, with color photography by Ed. Stepanek of Milwaukee. A perfect gift for a collector, who will enjoy its depiction of historic river transportation and its scenic Midwestern charm.

This postcard would look great framed or make an excellent addition to any collection.
