1934 vintage topographical postcard. Shortly after its foundation in the 9th century, the Benedictine abbey of Vézelay acquired the relics of St Mary Magdalene. Since then it has been an important place of pilgrimage. Here we see the central tympanum of the narthex.
Signed "LL" (Louis Lévy and sons).
The vertical text reading "MAGASIN DU PÈLERIN DE VÉZELAY" translates to "The Vézelay Pilgrim's Store." This means the prolific publisher (LL) custom-printed or supplied this card specifically for a local souvenir and religious shop located right next to the Basilica for visiting pilgrims.
