Edwardian Black Silk Taffeta Sash
Black watered silk taffeta sash with hand-knotted lace silk fringe makes this one of the most dynamic belts/sashes I have come across in over 35 years of collecting.
Orientalism became popular in Paris after the debut of the Ballets Russes in 1909. The elimination of the corset and the introduction of kimono-inspired fashions ushered in basque sashes and elaborate corded belts and tassel ornaments on belts, sleeves, purses, and hand fans.
Note the sash has two different finishes: one side is watered silk / moire / moiré/ Sharawadgi influenced - while the other side features a brushed satin finish. Stunning.
Measures: approximately 5 5/8" wide x 118" long
Fringe is an additional 7" long
