This 1964 vintage topographical postcard features the “Last Supper,” a magnificent life-size basswood sculpture created by Domenic Zappia of Kansas City, Missouri. Zappia, an accomplished artist known for his intricate wood carvings, spent four years meticulously crafting this piece. Completed in December 1962, the sculpture is modeled after Leonardo da Vinci’s famous painting and captures the moment Christ announces that one of his disciples will betray him.

The “Last Supper” sculpture, measuring an impressive 17 feet in length, was showcased at the 1964 New York World’s Fair. Tragically, Zappia passed away shortly after the sculpture was displayed, leaving a legacy of artistic excellence. His work continues to be admired for its detailed craftsmanship and emotional depth.

This postcard, measuring approximately 4 x 6 inches, offers a beautiful documentation of Zappia’s masterpiece.
