This beautiful vintage 1950s-1963 Plastichrome postcard showcases the legendary Arch Rock on Mackinac Island, one of Michigan’s most iconic natural landmarks. Carved from natural limestone, the graceful rock bridge rises approximately 149 feet above the clear waters of Lake Huron, spanning more than 50 feet from end to end.

Formed during the post-glacial era when Lake Huron’s water levels were much higher, Arch Rock has long been one of the most photographed and admired features of the island. Located within Mackinac Island State Park, Michigan’s oldest state park, the formation is a symbol of the island’s rugged beauty and geological history.

Published by the Hiawatha Card Company of Ypsilanti, Michigan, it was carefully colored by noted artist Lucy Gridley.
