Step into a space designed to inspire awe with this vintage postcard featuring the magnificent interior of the Hall of the Crucifixion at Forest Lawn Memorial-Park in Glendale, California. From the rows of rich red seating, your gaze is drawn toward the enormous panorama of Jan Styka’s “The Crucifixion,” dramatically illuminated and presented with music and narration. This card captures the grandeur and reverence of an experience that has moved generations of visitors.

Jan Styka’s monumental painting, completed in 1896, measures an astonishing 195 feet long by 45 feet high, making it one of the largest religious paintings in the world. The sweeping scene depicts the death of Christ with countless figures rendered in remarkable detail. Forest Lawn acquired the masterpiece in the 1940s and constructed the Hall of the Crucifixion-Resurrection specifically to house it. The auditorium, with approximately 700 seats, was designed so visitors could experience the painting through a carefully staged audiovisual presentation featuring narration, music, and dramatic lighting.

The postcard back is numbered 81A and reads: “Magnificent interior of the Hall of the Crucifixion, Forest Lawn Memorial-Park, Glendale, California, where, with accompanying music and narrative, visitors view Jan Styka's 195-foot masterpiece, ‘The Crucifixion’.” It carries the Forest Lawn Memorial-Park Association imprint and a standard divided-back layout, consistent with mid-20th-century issues.
