This rare modernist pendant was handcrafted by Frances Holmes Boothby, an important figure in American studio jewelry. Made in the 1950s, this piece features a bezel-set Dumortierite stone set within a hand-fabricated sterling silver frame. The stone is articulated and moves gently within the outer structure, adding a quiet kinetic element that reflects mid-century design.
Boothby studied at Iowa State College and taught at the Birchkill Arts and Crafts Guild. She exhibited her work at the Walker Art Center in the 1940s and 1950s. Her kinetic pieces are especially hard to find and are highly sought after by collectors of modernist and studio jewelry.
This is a unique example of mid-century American design, possessing both artistic and historical value. A black satin cord is included, while supplies last.
