This image was taken by Adolf (Adolfo) Zerkowitz, an Austrian-born pioneer of landscape and documentary photography in Spain. Zerkowitz transformed postcards into true works of art, creating an extensive archive of Spanish life that was published in travel guides, catalogs, and during the Spanish Civil War. His photographic legacy continued through his son, Alfredo Zerkowitz.
