Set of six matching antique metal shank buttons featuring a floral design with a central flower motif surrounded by pointed star-like rays and geometric edging. The surface exhibits a dark greenish-bronze patina with subtle golden highlights around the edges, imparting a rich, aged appearance typical of oxidized metal from prolonged exposure.

Measure approximately 22L, 22 lignes, 14 mm, or 9/16" (1/2"), Small.

The buttons date from the late Victorian era, likely produced between the 1880s and 1900. This period corresponds to the intricate embossed patterning, solid metal construction, and the characteristic loop shank with a pronounced central cone and small attachment hole, features commonly found in decorative buttons of that time.

The shank is an integral raised cone self-shank. It is pressed directly from the steel back piece and includes central thread holes for secure sewing. This exact style was standard for mid-to-late Victorian brass buttons from the 1870s to 1900.

They were most likely manufactured in Europe, particularly Birmingham, England, or France, as these countries dominated the production of high-quality metal buttons during the Victorian era, exporting them extensively for use in fashionable and formal garments.

Such buttons were typically used as decorative fasteners on ladies' garments, including bodices, jackets, dresses, blouses, or smaller outerwear pieces like capes and children's clothing. The compact size and ornate floral-star design made them ideal for adding elegant detail to Victorian fashion, particularly on more refined or semi-formal attire where multiple smaller buttons enhanced the visual appeal without overwhelming the garment.
