2000s WW2 Douglas C-47 "Gooney Bird" Transport Aircraft
Celebrate the workhorse of Allied air transport with this striking collectible postcard featuring the legendary Douglas C-47 Skytrain, famously known as the “Gooney Bird.”
The Douglas C-47 was the military transport version of the civilian DC-3 airliner and became one of the most important aircraft of World War II. Used extensively by Allied forces, it carried troops, cargo, medical supplies, and paratroopers across multiple theaters of war.
This aircraft is shown at Travis Air Force Base in California in 1947, captured in a vintage photograph parked on the airfield with other military planes in the background. The tail number 349500 corresponds to U.S. Army Air Forces records for a C-47A Skytrain.
Nicknamed the “Gooney Bird” for its sturdy build and distinctive appearance, the C-47 proved remarkably reliable. Its service extended beyond World War II into the late 1940s and 1950s, continuing to play a vital role in military airlift operations.
This image faithfully reproduces a historical photograph of the C-47 Skytrain, making it a standout collectible for aviation enthusiasts and military history collectors. This postcard would look great framed or make an excellent addition to any World War II aviation collection.
